Cemetery History:
Located high on a hill above Worthville is this old cemetery that has become known as the Mauk Cemetery. In the year 2000 it had only two tombstones, one veteran’s grave marker and 22 wooden crosses marking the graves. When John Mauk (b 1818) and his wife Rachel Clark Mauk purchased the nearby farm, the cemetery already existed. The known burial was that of Samuel Reed who died in March 1846. A very old map has the cemetery marked as the Reed Cemetery. It is believed Rachel and John are buried here, but no markers to that effect exist.
