Jacob Mauk and his wife, Susannah Walters (or Walter), were married in the 1810s and had 16 children who lived to adulthood. All sixteen married, had children and have living descendants. We do not know who Jacob’s parents were. There are many candidates among the Mock families of Bedford County, Pennsylvania. It is believed the family originated in Germany. One of the goals of the Mauk DNA Project is to establish who Jacob’s parents were.
Susannah’s father, Henry Walter, and paternal grandparents, Mathias Walter & Barbara Imler, are known and autosomal DNA evidence supports this. It is believed this family also originated in Germany.
Susannah’s mother was Mary How, sister of Margaret How Dively.
